News Story: MedVenture 2026- An Adventure into the Future of Medicine

By Sanjay Devaraja, Editor, The LKCMedicine

On a bright morning on 31 January, LKCMedicine’s Novena campus buzzed with anticipation as 80 pre-university students arrived for MedVenture 2026 — a one-day immersive experience designed to give them a taste of life as medical students. As part of NTU’s Early Admissions & Scholarships Exercise (EASE) 2026, the event blended exploration, discovery, and a healthy dose of fun, just as its name promised.

Groups of “adventurers” quickly formed through lively icebreakers, each team bearing names inspired by science and medicine — Matrix, Helix, Vector, Synapse, Signal, Pulse and Genome.

These names reflected the spirit of connection that defines modern medicine, where biology, technology, and patient care converge.

While the students embarked on their journey of medical discovery, their parents gathered at the Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library for a Breakfast Chat with senior members of the School’s leadership, including Vice-Dean (Education) Associate Professor Faith Chia and Chief Operating Officer Dr Serene Ng. The warm exchanges revealed what makes LKCMedicine unique: a world-class curriculum, an inspiring faculty, and a mission to shape compassionate, forward-thinking doctors for Singapore’s future.

Back at the main event, Assistant Dean, MBBS Lead Assistant Professor Daniel Quek welcomed the students with infectious enthusiasm and a clear message: “Our MBBS programme prepares you to thrive in tomorrow’s healthcare landscape, with high-quality, value-based, patient-centred learning.”

He summed up the programme’s philosophy using  five dynamic Rs — Refreshing, Relevant, Rigorous, Real-world ready, and Resilient — and explained how learners and educators alike share the adventure of mastering emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality while keeping empathy at the heart of medicine.

Armed with their MedVenture maps and guided by 20 Student Ambassadors, the teams embarked on a series of hands-on sessions — “An Hour with...” – where they engaged with some of LKCMedicine’s brightest minds.

At the Learning Studio, Lead for Educational Development Ms Jessica Ang led a spirited demonstration of Team-Based Learning in action, while at the Anatomy Learning Centre, Head of Anatomy Associate Professor Sreenivasulu Reddy Mogali introduced students to the art and science of understanding the human body using plastinated specimens, 3D models, and virtual dissection tools like the Anatomage table.

The adventure continued through research spaces at the Clinical Sciences Building, where participants met scientists at the Dementia Research Centre (Singapore), HELIOS-SG100K Centre, and Assistant Professor Lynn Yap’s cardiometabolic lab. They explored topics ranging from heart regeneration to understanding gut microbes — connecting theory to real-world impact.

In the Dialogue on Career in Medicine, moderated by Associate Professor Chia, students engaged with Adjunct Associate Professor Glenn Tan and alumna Dr Gwyneth Joy Lim. Dr Lim recounted how LKCMedicine prepared her to “sit with complexities and think like a doctor while staying human,” – a lesson that continues to guide her as an Internal Medicine Resident at NHG Health.

Teamwork Meets Adventure

The energy ramped up again for the MedVenture Quest, where teams dashed across campus to solve clues and uncover the story of LKCMedicine’s medical world. Prizes awaited the fastest teams with the sharpest answers, but it was clear that camaraderie was the real reward.

Finally, creativity took centre stage during the Learning Journey presentations, where students reimagined their day’s experience through skits, songs, and even rap.

The judges — Dr Ng, Assistant Dean, Admissions and Overseas Electives Associate Professor See, MdmSiti Rohanah Koid, and Students’ Medical Society President Melissa Hock — had the challenging honour of choosing the winning teams.

When Dr Ng announced the closing surprise — a one-week research placement for the top-scoring group — the auditorium erupted in cheers. It was the perfect finale to a day that left every student with newfound inspiration.

Reflections from the Adventurers

“After today, I felt like I could really be part of this School. Walking around the facilities made it feel like a glimpse into my future as a medical student.” — Shwe Yadanar Win, Ngee Ann Polytechnic

“Medicine is challenging, but through MedVenture, I learnt that the support system here helps you thrive.” — Jared Wong, Nanyang Junior College

“The [TBL demo] broadened my perspective about the different methods used to teach at LKCMedicine. I have been exposed to something similar before in Junior College, and I think this approach is quite effective in letting students explain their thought process in how they answer their questions.” — Naya Golyan, National Junior College

As the MedVenture participants left the campus, they carried more than memories of discovery — they carried a clearer vision of their future in medicine. For LKCMedicine, it was another step forward in nurturing the next generation of trailblazers in healthcare.
