Minor in Sustainable Urban Planning

About

The Minor in Sustainable Urban Planning (SUP) is designed to introduce students to the development of sustainable cities and their real-world implementation. Through this programme, students are equipped with essential knowledge and skills in urban planning strategies.

With a strong emphasis on infrastructure and environmental sustainability, the Minor prepares students to contribute to the creation of resilient and sustainable urban environments.

Student Eligibility

All NTU students are eligible to complete this Minor except for the following, 

  1. Students reading Second Major in Society and Urban Systems 
  2. Students majoring in the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) admitted to
    → Year 1 in AY 2020-21 and earlier
    → Year 2 in AY 2021-22 and earlier
  3. Students majoring in the Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) admitted to
    → Year 1 in AY 2020-21 and earlier
    → Year 2 in AY 2021-22 and earlier

In addition, all NTU students can also choose to register for the Minor courses to fulfil the Broadening and Deepening Elective (BDE) of their respective degree program.

Students reading Second Major in Society and Urban Systems

Students enrolled in the Second Major in Society and Urban Systems are not eligible to pursue the Minor in Sustainable Urban Planning. However, they may take one or more of the following courses to fulfil the Broadening and Deepening Elective (BDE) requirements of their degree programme:


Academic Requirements

The Minor programme offers students the flexibility to shape their academic journey. They can progress at their own pace and customise their curriculum to align with their individual interests and aspirations.

To be awarded the Minor in Sustainable Urban Planning, students will be required to complete a total of 15 AU by reading the following five courses with 3 AU each:

 Flexible Grading Option (FGO) can be applied to courses that count towards the fulfilment of the minor programme. However, students shall take note of the grading requirement:

  • For students admitted in AY2020-2021 and earlier, and students admitted directly to Year 2 in AY2021-2022: FGO-declared courses cannot be counted towards the fulfilment of the minor programme.
  • For students admitted to Year 1 in AY2021-2022 and all students admitted from AY2022-2023 and onwards:
    • Minor: Up to 6 AU of courses can be non-letter graded, which can include courses declared for FGO.
