International Singapore Intergenerational Games (I-SING)

First launched nationally in 2016 as part of a research programme funded by A*STAR in 2010, I-SING leverages digital exercise games (exergaming) to encourage older adults to stay physically active while enhancing cognitive, psychological, and social well-being. Through fun, interactive gameplay, seniors exercised together in a supportive and socially engaging environment, fostering intergenerational interaction and building confidence in the use of digital technologies. From 2023, Ageing Research Institute for Society and Education (ARISE) has continued the research study, further exploring I-SING's potential.

Recognized in 2024 as a whitelisted evidence-based programme by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), Ministry of Health, I-SING aligns strongly with Singapore's Active Ageing, Healthier SG, and Smart Nation initiatives. The 2025 edition further demonstrated the programme's ability to scale participation while maintaining high levels of engagement, inclusivity, and positive social outcomes. Research and programme observations continue to show that exergaming can reduce social isolation, enhance sociability, and support sustained participation in physical activity among older adults.

The successful delivery of I-SING 2025 has led to I-SHINE, an ARISE spinoff, translating years of research, programme design, and operational experience into a scalable exergaming and senior wellness platform. I-SHINE aims to enable year-round, measurable, and socially connected exercise experiences for older adults, supporting service providers in delivering joyful and impactful active ageing activities.
