Handling and Storage of human tissues

A) Storage and Use of tissues for intended purposes
Any human biological materials obtained during the course of research study should be stored and analysed only for the purposes specified in the consent form and should be destroyed after completion of the study (unless explicit consent for use in future research has been obtained from the donor).

B) Storage and Infrastructure

Tissue Storage Infrastructure

  • All storage of tissues should be access controlled.
  • Maintain a log to monitor access to various equipment, database and other facilities.
  • All equipment maintenance and servicing log, and temperature monitoring system and alarm systems, are to be maintained.

Data Storage Infrastructure:

  • All databases containing donor details should be access-restricted and password-protected.
  • Storage of physical documents containing identifiers must be double access controlled.
  • Proper tracking mechanism for consent collected, and the receiving and release of donor tissues (i.e. inventory).
