Eligibility and Appointment Categories

VOYAGE supports two appointment tracks, recognising different career stages and modes of engagement.

Junior Fellows

Early- to mid-career researchers with strong research promise and a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Typically post-PhD and pre-tenure
  • Apply directly through an open call

Senior Fellows

Internationally recognised scholars or senior industry researchers whose work has made significant impact and aligns strategically with IAS and NTU priorities.

  • Typically tenured faculty or senior industry researchers
  • Appointed by invitation through nomination

What We Offer

  • One round-trip economy airfare (most direct route) between the Visiting Fellow’s country of residence and Singapore. Additional travel support may be provided subject to approval under programme guidelines.
  • Monthly remuneration and visa support, in accordance with NTU’s prevailing policies
  • Dedicated workspace and full access to NTU facilities, IT services, and libraries
  • Access to IAS and NTU seminars, conferences, and networking opportunities
  • IAS will assist in checking the availability of on-campus accommodation. Accommodation expenses will be borne by the Visiting Fellow.

Visiting Fellows are responsible for securing appropriate health insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in Singapore.

What We Expect

During the Fellowship, Visiting Fellows are expected to contribute actively to the research and intellectual life of IAS and NTU. Indicative contributions include:

  • Joint research projects and interdisciplinary collaborations with NTU faculty
  • Co-authored review articles, perspective papers, or original research publications
  • Development of collaborative proposals for competitive national or international research grants
  • Mentorship and training activities for early-career faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and advanced students

Fellows are also expected to:

  • Deliver guest lectures, seminars, or workshops at NTU
  • Participate in IAS and NTU academic events
  • Engage, where appropriate, with local research institutes, funding agencies, or industry partners
  • Acknowledge the IAS@NTU VOYAGE Fellowship in publications arising from the Fellowship
  • Join the cohort of VOYAGE Fellowship alumni

A brief Fellowship report outlining outcomes and impact must be submitted within two months of the appointment’s conclusion.

Fellowship Structure and Duration

  • Two appointment tracks: Junior Fellows and Senior Fellows
  • Initial appointment of one year, with eligibility for renewal for a second year
  • Residency requirement: 3 to 12 months at NTU, including a minimum of three consecutive months on campus to ensure sustained engagement. 

Number of Fellowships Per Year

In the inaugural cohort, up to two Junior Fellows and two Senior Fellows will be selected annually through a competitive application or nomination process by the Programme Committee.
