About the Seminar
Decarbonization policies are increasingly being implemented worldwide to mitigate climate change impacts in the transportation sector. This lecture examines how such policies influence intermodal transportation networks and reshape the spatial configuration of port hinterlands. Focusing on Japan, the analysis investigates the interaction between policy interventions and shippers’ environmental awareness in driving CO2 reduction and altering hinterland structures.
The lecture further explores the case of Bangladesh, emphasizing that the effective utilization and enhancement of intermodal transport networks are critical to promoting newly developed ports. The study visualizes the geospatial transition of port hinterlands by analyzing changes in intermodal service frequency.
