Chinese at NTU

The Chinese Programme is a flagship division within the NTU School of Humanities. It conducts courses mainly in Chinese and aims to cultivate bilingual and bicultural talents through professional training in Chinese. The major in Chinese includes four categories:

• Chinese literature and culture
• Chinese history, thought and China studies
• Linguistics and Chinese linguistics
• Studies of ethnic-Chinese. 

The Chinese Programme also has two featured minors:

• Chinese-English translation
• Chinese creative writing

Inheriting the spiritual tradition of Nanyang University, the Chinese Programme's mission is to promote the study and appreciation of the Chinese language and culture. Committed to carry forward these traditions as well as to create new horizons, it acts locally to encompass the region and at the same time has a global vision to understand the contemporary world.

The rapid development of the Programme owes much to the strong support from the University, external institutions, and even common Singaporeans who have made generous contributions. This has made possible the establishment of endowment funds and awards which benefit Chinese major students. These include the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal, the Shanghai Book Company Endowment Scholarship, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Foundation (SCCCF) Endowed Scholarship, the Wan Boo Sow Award, the Wan Boo Sow Gold Medal cum Cash Award, You Jin Gold Medal and You Jin Creative Chinese Writing Award.​​​​​​​​ Please find more info at NTU Chinese Programme Scholarship.
