About Us
At the LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays, we bring together over 10 faculty members from multiple schools and research centres across NTU, including the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences (SPMS), School of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB), as well as affiliated researchers from the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE).
This multidisciplinary, multi-school structure enables close collaboration across engineering, physical sciences, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, and environmental life sciences. As a result, LUMINOUS! focuses on cross-disciplinary research aimed at addressing critical challenges in energy efficiency, sustainable lighting technologies, and environmental impact, contributing to efforts to mitigate global warming.
A metal-organic chemical-vapor deposition (MOCVD) is set up, specially dedicated to the solid-state lighting and display. At LUMINOUS!, we develop and demonstrate high efficiency LED lighting using innovative epitaxial growth, fabrication process, and phosphors to outperform presently commercially available fluorescent and LEDs. The strategic research at LUMINOUS! enables major energy saving in lighting in Singapore/World and is fully in line with the Sustainable Earth Peak of Excellence, Nanyang Technological University.
