Finance Faculty’s Editorial Roles at Management Science

NBS’s Finance Division is proud to share that Prof Will Cong has joined NTU in December 2025. Will currently serves as a Department Editor at Management Science, one of the world’s leading journals in business research. His editorial leadership at Management Science reflects his international standing in finance and fintech research, and further strengthens NTU’s global research profile. We are also delighted to announce that in 2026, Professor Xin (Simba) Chang and Associate Professor Angie Low have been appointed as Associate Editors at Management Science. Their appointments recognise their scholarly impact and expertise in their respective research areas, as well as their contributions to advancing rigorous and innovative finance research. These prestigious editorial roles at a top-tier journal underscore our Division’s strong research culture and growing international influence.

New Bachelor of Applied Computing in Finance Launched

NTU launched a new interdisciplinary degree programme Bachelor of Applied Computing in Finance on 16 November. The launch took place at the Singapore Fintech Festival 2023. Jointly offered by NBS and the School of Computer Science and Engineering, faculty from both schools will co-develop and co-teach several new integrated courses such as Blockchain in Finance, Machine Learning in Finance, and Ethics and Regulations for Digital Finance.

With no foolproof way to prevent banking and e-payment service outages, what can businesses and consumers do?

When DBS Bank and Citibank digital banking and e-payments services were down for hours following an issue at a data centre used by both banks, some experts highlighted vulnerabilities such as systemic risks from centralised data centres. “The fact that banks might opt for the same top-tier data centre or other IT service provider amplifies the likelihood of a systemic outage, which leads to more severe consequences for both businesses and consumers,” said A/P Cindy Deng Xin.

What is cyber insurance and can it protect scam victims?

As scams proliferate, causing substantial financial losses due to cyber threats like phishing attacks and fake friend call scams, it is crucial to explore the potential of cyber insurance. However, it is important to recognise that current policies offer coverage for specific scam types. A/P Shinichi Kamiya emphasises the need for ongoing vigilance against scams, even when covered by insurance. He advises that insurance should be considered only after implementing adequate preventive measures, such as maintaining updated cybersecurity software and building awareness of cyber risks.
