 Dr. Zhang is an experienced executive, world-renowned computer scientist and visionary R&D leader. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor of Carlyle Group, a Venture Partner at Source Code Capital, a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Institute for AI Industry Research, Tsinghua University. He also serves as independent non-executive directors on boards of Ant Group and three US and Hong Kong listed companies, including the non-executive Chairman of AAC Technologies Holdings (HK:02018).  He was the founding Chairman of Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI, a non-profit AI research institute).

Dr. Zhang was the Executive Director and CEO of Kingsoft, where he also founded Kingsoft Cloud and served as its CEO.  Before Kingsoft, Dr. Zhang worked for Microsoft for over 12 years, as the CTO for Microsoft Asia-Pacific Research and Development Group, one of the first ten Distinguished Scientists, Managing Director of Microsoft Advanced Technology Center, and Assistant Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia.  Prior to Microsoft, Dr. Zhang worked at HP Labs at Palo Alto, CA, and at the Institute of Systems Science, National University of Singapore.

As a foreign member of US National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow IEEE and ACM, Dr. Zhang is world renowned technical leader in media computing and artificial intelligence. He was the recipient of 2010 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award, 2012 ACM SIGMM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, and 2008 Asian American Engineer of the Year Award. He is among the world topmost influential research leaders in computer science, holds 150+ patents and has authored 4 books and 400+ papers.

Dr. Zhang received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Zhengzhou University, China.
