Research Brief

Yijun's research explores the application of transmedia storytelling in the protection of intangible cultural heritage (ICH). She examines how animation, graphic novels, augmented reality (AR) and other media can create new narrative pathways that foster public understanding and engagement with traditional culture. Her work investigates the potential of transmedia storytelling for cultural dissemination and preservation, while critically analysing the factors that shape the representation and re-creation of cultural heritage. These include the identity of narrators, the affordances of technological media, audience perception, shifting cultural contexts and mechanisms of cultural exchange across diverse social and geographical settings.
