Research Brief

As a textile artist and art educator, Yalan's research investigates how text-to-image generative AI tools influence students’ artistic confidence and creativity, with a particular focus on Grade 5 and Grade 8 learners. She examines how these tools can serve as catalysts for creative expression, enabling students to visualise ideas, experiment with artistic styles and overcome barriers in the creative process. Her work also explores how generative AI affects different dimensions of creativity, including elaboration, fluency, flexibility and originality, as well as students’ confidence in their artistic abilities. More broadly, Yalan’s research focuses on how integrating emerging technologies into school-based art education can nurture technical skills, deeper creative thinking, aesthetic awareness and self-expression, helping students develop the confidence to see themselves as capable creators in a changing world.
